Saturday evenings are usually the most expensive times to rent banquet halls or other facilities. Consider having your wedding on a Friday evening, or during the afternoon or morning, if the place you choose is booked up.

There are places that you can use that is less expensive to have a reception at. Contact your local VFW or other type of clubs and see what they have to offer. If you have a local community building or a local church with a gym, check to see what they have to offer you if your reception will be informal. I had mine on a Saturday at our local VFW and it was not expensive. We had a costume party and everyone had a great time for about $10.00 a person.
